Overview
Choosing the Way of Truth
At the heart of the believer's life is a deliberate choice: "I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws" Psalm 119:30. Faithfulness is not accidental or merely inherited—it is a posture of the heart that is renewed daily. To set our hearts on God's Word is to anchor ourselves against drift, to declare before the Lord that we will not be put to shame Psalm 119:31.
This choice produces freedom, not constraint. "I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free" Psalm 119:32. The commands of God are not chains to slow us down; they are the track on which we run unhindered. When the Lord enlarges the heart, obedience becomes joyful pursuit rather than reluctant duty.
Such a life requires teachableness. "Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes… Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain" Psalm 119:33-36. We cannot turn our own hearts; we ask God to do it. The cry "please revive my life" is the honest prayer of a soul that knows its dependence—aware that without the Spirit's quickening work, even our best resolutions falter.
For the church, the pastoral call is simple and weighty: keep choosing. Set your heart anew on God's voice. Ask him to teach you, turn you, and revive you. The way of truth is open to every believer who will run it—and the One who set our hearts free will keep them free as we go.
